What is 9:16? At its basic it's an aspect ratio. One that didn't exist until Apple released an iPhone with video. Now it's just easier to hold the phone strait up instead of sideways. So in honor of that we have the 9:16 film festival.

There are 2 categories for this first festival.

One Shot: It is a video in one shot. Maybe it's shot on an iPhone 3GS since that is the reason for this format and festival, but it does not have to be. It is one shot no longer than 3 minutes. Show me your best.

5 Minutes: This one can be edited. You can use whatever format you like as before, just make sure the final cut is no longer than 5 minutes.

Export and Upload: We're going to use Vimeo for this because Vimeo supports the 9:16 format. When you export make sure you export at 480x640 in Final Cut or iMovie or Avid (i guess? never used it) and not the other way. We don't want black bars on the sides, that's missing the point.

Submission: Once you upload your video to Vimeo email me with the link so I can view it. Though I haven't assembled one, there will be a panel of judges. NineBySixteen (at) gmail (dot) com
